Located on Lake Michigan, just East of Chicago’s Downtown, Navy Pier has been a Chicago’s landmark since it first opened in 1916. Navy Pier is a tradition, and when you look at all there is to do and experience it’s easy to see why that tradition gets bigger and better every year!

Originally designed as both a shipping and recreational facility, the Pier also served as a military site during two world wars and a venue for concerts and exhibitions. Today, Navy Pier showcases a unique collection of restaurants and shops in addition to unequaled recreational and exhibition facilities.

The Navy Pier is home to many attractions, the most eye-catching is the 148ft high Ferris wheel. The Navy Pier Ferris wheel lift visitors to unparalleled sweeping views of the Skyline and lakefront. Near the Ferris wheel is a 44ft high musical carousel. The Carousel’s three-dozen hand painted animals found throughout the history of Carousel, a great American folk art. The Navy Pier features two museums, the Children’s museum and the Smith museum of stained glass windows. The later just might be the best kept secret of Navy Pier. The museum is enclosed entirely inside the eastern half of the Pier, so stay alert, because you don’t want to overlook this beautiful collection of religious and secular pieces dating back to the 1870’s. The Navy Pier Aero balloon, an anchored helium-filed balloon that floats above the lakefront allows visitors to admire Chicago’s Skyline from a height of 350ft.

Dock street runs the length of the Pier’s South Dock and is reserved for pedestrians, bicyclists and joggers. Putt, putt, putt your way around Pier Park on the Pier’s 18-hole miniature golf course. It weaves around the base of the Ferris wheel while touring Chicago themed golf holes.

You have three choices for Navy Pier boat rides when it comes to cruising around Chicago. These are a “Speed boat ride”, “Architectural cruise” and most recommended Nighttime fireworks cruises. But no matter which boat ride you choose, don’t forget your camera. The Pier has fireworks on Wednesday and Saturday nights during the summer and Friday and Saturday nights during the fall.

Towards the end of the Pier you’ll find the Beer Garden, a lively gathering place where you can relax and re-organize. Live music and premium beers are the highlights of the laid-back locale.
