Joy of Jazz Festival is indeed the biggest annual jazz festival in Johannesburg. It is an ideal family outing, featuring a range of musical styles but with a strong emphasis on jazz. Over 200 local and international artists perform at different venues across the city, particularly in Newtown. International and local jazz musicians expected to perform include Ben Williams, Vusi Mahlasela, Jimmy Dludlu, Brian Thusi, Pops Mohamed, Jonas Gwangwa and Sweden’s Grammy-award winner, Andreas Vollenweider. American singer Phil Perry; Main Ingredient’s singers, Cuba Gooding Senior, Larry Moore and George Stanley Senior; trumpeter, Ingrid Jensen; Spain’s Sumrra; Sterling EQ; Kesivan Naidoo; Nigerian All Stars; Kúnlé Ayo and Room 11 are also on the bill. "Music lovers can expect to see an explosion of talent from the African continent," reads a press statement from Total Exposure, the event’s publicists.
Keyboardist Lao Tizer, who will collaborate with Emmy Award-winning guitarist, composer, producer and arranger, Chieli Minucci, and international violinist, Karen Briggs, will be performing at the Jazz night. They will be complemented by Marion Meadows, the composer, a tenor and soprano saxophonist, and jazz guitarist and singer, Norman Brown.
